Sardinha cup 2019 - kicking off the season
First leg of the first race of the Classe Figaro Bénéteau seasson, the Sardinha Cup 2019 starting in 30 hours starting at 1400 Local time.
The race will be a 24 hour leg taking us around the local island of Ile du Yeu twice.
34 boats, 68 sailors all in identical Classe Figaro Bénéteau boats that have never been raced before! Safe to say we will be learning a lot!
It's been a busy winter, receiving the new Figaro's at the end of January we have had 2 months to learn to sail, set up and ensure the boats are ready for offshore racing. The time has flown by. thanks to Pôle Finistère Course au Large for the training sessions.
It's been a great trip so far. I have been working hard and closely with Jeremie Beyou towards this first race of the seasson that is a 3 etap, double handed course from Saint Gilles in Vendee.
We have been living , training and working on the boat together almost every day to forge a nice partnership. And will be pushing hard in the mighty Charal Figaro.
There are a hell of a lot of great sailors at this event and all with similar amount of time spent sailing the boats. It is rare to turn up to a sailing event and it to feel as open as this, I really couldn't tell you who the top boats will be (other than us ;) ) . Its definitely going to be worth watching and tracking.
Here is the schedule;
Sat 30th Start Etap 1 - 24 hour race around local islands
Tuesday 2nd April Start Etap 2 - 600 mile leg
Tuesday 9th April Start Etap 3 - 600/700 mile leg
There is going to be a lot of learning going on over the next 3 weeks, exciting times!
